18/11/13 09:13The year was 2058. Resources are beginning to run low. Many countries are on the brink of global war to control what resources they can. Genetically enhanced super soldiers are the norm, for both military might and mercenary groups. Many greedy corporations took it upon themselves to take these super soldiers a step further, making them into incredibly devastating weapons capable of turning the tides of the war. While one corporation sought to control a living nuclear weapon, another attempted to create a living biological weapon. A hybrid capable of generating diseases and spreading them throughout enemy encampments without causing any alerts. Thus, the Tsuchigumo Experiment began. The location? Old New York City, which had practically been abandoned soon after the war began. The only remaining people were the civilians who couldn't afford to move away, and a few small businesses. The once mighty city was now a ghost town, and a perfect place for the experiments to go unnoticed.
The firsts tests went surprisingly well. First they needed to be able to prove it was capable for a creature to carry the diseases they wanted unhindered, as well as be able to produce them. A rare, subterranean species of spider proved this was quite possible. The hard part was next. Creating a human-spider hybrid that possessed the qualities they desired. It took many failed tests and the determination to succeed before they finally achieved what they wanted. She was also the only one who survived. She was treated more as a lab animal than a child, but one of the scientists, a young Japanese man, treated her otherwise, showing her kindness. He was also the one who named her. Yamame Kurodani.
While Yamame was put through many tests and small-scale of experiments from a young age, she did quite well. Her abilities ended up being far greater than the scientists had hoped for. Not only did she possess the ability to produce and spread infectious diseases, but she was incredibly strong and athletic...and she could also create webs. Small organs in her wrists were capable of producing a webbing stronger than most steel cables. She could also climb. Oh, could she climb. In fact, she slept in one of the ceiling corners in her room. Her main function however, worked just as splendidly as they hoped. Her body was capable of producing at will and being host to a number of infectious diseases, including a new, devastating variety of influenza. And although she took on each test with her own determination, what she looked forward to most was what came after. Playtime with her scientist friend, who'd become a father figure to her. Even knowing she was supposed to be a weapon, Yamame was raised to be cheerful and outgoing. Many of the other scientists did not approve of this, but it was too late to stop it now.
It was her sixteenth birthday when it happened. An assault on the laboratory. Apparently information had been leaked, and a rebel group had taken it upon themselves to stop the experiments. During the attack, Yamame's friend helped her escape, and nearly died in the process. He was severely burned when he attempted to shield her from an explosion. Even so, the two managed to escape the chaos and out into the city. Although her friend was injured, Yamame stopped in front of an old storefront. There was a dress in the window that she thought was cute. She'd never had any real clothes before. Just simple hospital gowns. Her friend helped her get in and obtain the dress. It was still her birthday, after all. They also grabbed a first aid kit, which Yamame used some of the basic first aid skills she'd learned to try and treat his wounds. However, even she knew that it was only a matter of time before he succumbed to them.
She took care of him for several weeks, holed up in an abandoned apartment complex, trying to make him as comfortable as possible. He told her many stories and things about real life she should know. But one thing she took to heart most of all. To live, and to be herself. Not too long afterwards, he died in her arms. Yamame cried, but she knew it was inevitable. She took it upon herself to give him a proper burial. She removed his soiled bandages and replaced them with her own spider silk before she finally said goodbye. Those same soiled bandages, she attached to the skirt of her dress. A reminder of her dear friend. The one person who'd taught her kindness, friendship, and how to smile.
Now there are rumors spreading throughout the remaining populace of the city. Stories of a spider girl that can be seen searching through old buildings, looking for people to play with...
